How current are the data sheets behind the comparisons?

Every figure on GlossAtlas comes from a manufacturer data sheet, and a data sheet has a revision date. Two questions follow: how old are the sheets behind the comparisons, and when a sheet was revised, did the number change? This page answers both from the dataset's own records, and reports what re-checking found.

The short answerThe sheets range from 2020-05-01 to 2026-08-01. 9 of 33 had last been revised more than three years before the 2026-10-10 check; 4 within the year before it. In the 10 cases where a newer revision existed, 7 left the figure unchanged and 3 changed it, which is why GlossAtlas re-checks documents instead of assuming a sheet stays current.

How old is each brand's documentation?

Age is the time between a sheet's printed revision date and 2026-10-10, the date the whole dataset was last checked against the manufacturers' documents (a fixed date, so these figures do not drift with the calendar). Ages are rounded to a tenth of a year.

Behr82020-05-012025-06-012.41 of 8
Valspar82023-05-152023-05-153.48 of 8

Valspar's documentation is the oldest in the dataset (median 3.4 years, 8 of 8 sheets over three years old); the single oldest sheet is Behr Premium Plus, dated 2020-05-01. Sherwin-Williams's is the newest (median 1.2 years). An old revision date is not proof a sheet is out of date: a manufacturer may simply not have revised it. But it is the reason those figures deserve the most careful re-checking.

When a sheet was revised, did the number change?

Five records carry a note that a newer (or older) revision of the sheet exists. These are the only cases the dataset documents, so they are a small sample, but they are real ones.

Behr Premium Plus Flat5/20205/2025Yes: was 0–4 at 60° and 85°; now 0–5 at 60° and 85°

The 3 changes are not cosmetic. Sherwin-Williams Emerald Matte did not just move: the new sheet adds a 60° figure and a different 85° range, so it went from comparable at 85° only to comparable at both angles. Behr Premium Plus Semi-Gloss moved up by ten units at the lower end. Behr Premium Plus Flat's upper bound rose from 4 to 5 at both angles. A match that relied on the older figures would have been slightly wrong. In the other 7 cases the sheet was reissued with the same range, so re-checking them changed nothing but the citation. Sheet revisions are a poor predictor of a figure changing, and a good reason to check anyway.

What re-checking the original records found

The original 16 records were compared with the manufacturers' live documents on 2026-09-21. The result, from the public change log: 13 were unchanged on re-check, 2 had a newer sheet with the same range, and 1 had been transcribed from an older sheet and was corrected (Emerald Matte, above). That is a correction rate of roughly one in sixteen for records that had been checked once already, which is the practical argument for treating the figures as "as of the check date" and for dating every page.

A second re-check, on 2026-10-10, re-read six Behr sheets (Marquee Matte, Eggshell, Satin and Semi-Gloss; Premium Plus Flat and Satin) from Behr's own document host, replacing copies hosted by a retailer. One of the six had a different range (Premium Plus Flat, above); five had the same range. The Marquee sheets turned out to be newer revisions than the retailer-hosted copies.
